
Jiwan Lee
Biography
Jiwan Lee is a social policy researcher whose work focuses on how social policies shape the economic and social well-being of families and children. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Brown University, where she collaborates with Dr. Margot Jackson on the project State-Level Safety Net Investments, Family Economic Wellbeing, and Children’s Educational Development Before and During the COVID-19 Pandemic. This research examines how public investments during the pandemic affected family resources and child outcomes, with particular attention to disparities by socioeconomic status and race/ethnicity.
Prior to joining Brown, Lee earned her Ph.D. in Social Welfare Policy from Columbia University. Her dissertation explores the effects of state Paid Family Leave policies on maternal employment and the economic security of families with newborns. She is also affiliated with the Columbia Center on Poverty and Social Policy, where she has contributed to research on the Child Tax Credit, Earned Income Tax Credit, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
