Hong Xia
Biography
Hong Xia joined the PSTC in 2015, coming from Ohio State University where she was a research associate at the Center for Human Resource Research. For nearly fourteen years, she worked on a large database, the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1997 (NLSY), conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. She was responsible for creating event history variables for marriage and crime and incarceration histories and other variables in fertility, income, and training sections. She has extensive experience in data programming, management, exploration, and analysis, and is available for consultation. Hong holds a bachelor's degree in statistics from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and an M.S. in statistics from Arizona State University.
At PSTC, Hong assembles, links, and analyzes complex, multi-layered data sets using computational and statistical software programs. As population scholars start to use new types of data, and link administrative data, Hong supports researchers in evaluating data quality and in data integration. She produces data files, analyses, and reports for affiliates, and supports dissemination of original data with codebooks and the anonymization of data files, formatting files for deposit with the Interuniversity Consortium for Political and Social Research or an alternative archive. She also supports the collection of survey data.
