PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] – This year's annual meeting of the Population Association of American took place in Washington, D.C., with PSTC affiliates in attendance and on the program. PSTC paper and/or poster presenters included Postdocs Mao-Mei Liu, Matthew Martinez, and Tyler Myroniuk and Trainees Girija Borker, Zhen Liu, Patrick Mayne, Sveta Milusheva, Heather Randell, Alex Ayalu Reda, Ida Sahlu, and Yashas Vaidya.
Faculty associates who presented papers and/or posters included Elizabeth Fussell, Margot Jackson, David Lindstrom, Stephen McGarvey, Jayanti Owens, Zhenchao Qian, Susan Short, Daniel Jordan Smith, and Michael White. Fussell and Lindstrom also served as discussants as did John Logan. Anna Aizer, Randell, and Myroniuk chaired or organized sessions.
The PSTC also had a significant number of invited poster judges at the conference. Andrew Foster and Leah VanWey, along with Fussell, Jackson, Lindstrom, Qian, and Short, served in this capacity with Lindstrom serving as the head judge of the Migration, Urbanization, Population, Development, and Environment division.
The week before PAA, two trainees presented their papers to the PSTC community at the annual PSTC PAA Preview. Milusheva presented “Using Cell Phone Data to Improve Disease Targeting and Mitigate the Negative Externality of Internal Migration,” and Mayne presented "Fertility Trends and Economic Inequality in the United States, 1984-2014."
