On Wednesday, September 9th, the PSTC community gathered to celebrate the beginning of a new academic year. 

Margot Jackson, Director of the PSTC, enthusiastically welcomed the crowd of faculty members, postdocs, and graduate students back to campus and expressed her excitement for the increased opportunities that engagement with the new MSDA students–who are now fully integrated into the PSTC–will create. She also encouraged the community to introduce themselves to the visiting scholars we’re hosting this fall—Ferdinand Niyimbanira and Yifan Shen. 

As members of the PSTC conduct and support the interdisciplinary research that examines the many factors shaping population dynamics, Margot and associate director Andy Foster reminded the community to take advantage of the many opportunities that the PSTC offers, including signing up for meetings and lunches with visiting colloquia speakers. 

Those who are new to the PSTC were also reminded that the staff at Mencoff Hall are available to help provide guidance and answer questions about the interdisciplinary and challenging work of demography, as well as explain how the Center can support them logistically. 

It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and to meet new members of our community at the reception! We wish everyone an enjoyable semester and look forward to seeing you at upcoming PSTC Colloquia talks as well as at the many workshops and training opportunities happening at our Center this year!
