PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] – Associate Professor of Population Studies (Research) Rachel Franklin is now editor of the journal Geographical Analysis. Franklin, who is the associate director of Spatial Structures in the Social Sciences (S4), the spatial core for the Population Studies and Training Center (PSTC) at Brown, began her three-year term as editor on July 1.

The quarterly, peer-reviewed journal is one of the top spatial methods journals and is very highly regarded in geography. It publishes geographical theory, model building, and quantitative methods to geographers and scholars in a wide spectrum of related fields, and has been know to publish on demographic methods, particularly in migration.

“My hope for the journal is that we continue to serve as an outlet for the highest caliber spatial research, while also staying at the cutting edge of new methods, tools, and applications,” Franklin said.

Geographical Analysis describes itself as “first in its specialty area and one of the most frequently cited journals in geography.” Published on behalf of the Department of Geography at The Ohio State University since 1969, the journal traditionally publishes “mathematical and nonmathematical articulations of geographical theory, and statements and discussions of the analytic paradigm…. Spatial data analyses and spatial econometrics and statistics are strongly represented.”

Franklin was also recently added to the editorial board of Population, Space, and Place, a research journal in the field of population geography and in geographical population studies. The most recent Special Issue of the journal focuses on "Migration and the Informal Economy in Post-Industrial Economies."
