Shapiro to give Presidential Faculty Award lecture

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] – The George S. and Nancy B. Parker Professor of Economics, Jesse Shapiro, will deliver the Brown University Presidential Faculty Award lecture on Tuesday, October 25. His talk is titled, "How to Talk Like a Republican, and Other Lessons From Using Text as Data."

In his research, Shapiro looks in unusual places to find answers that can impact public policy and society. “Words and other features of language are likely to be an increasingly important source of data for social scientists in the years to come,” he says.

The Presidential Faculty Award Lecture was established by President Christina Paxson to recognize members of Brown's distinguished faculty who are conducting especially important and innovative scholarship. The event takes place on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the John Carter Brown Library.
