PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] – On April 27, scholars from the U.S. and China will gather at the PSTC to discuss two aspects of Chinese society: 1) The One-Child Policy and Chinese Society's Future and 2) Marriage, Family, and Inequality among China’s Young Adults. The one-day conference, Chinese Society After One-Child Policy and Hyper Economic Growth, will discuss the effects of the One-Child Policy as well as present results from the Fudan Yangtze River Social Transformation Survey. This longitudinal survey focuses on a generation of young adults and their upbringing, employment histories, marital and fertility histories, health, income and assets, and childcare, child rearing and elderly care activities.
The conference is being organized by Professor of Sociology Zhenchao Qian and supported by the PSTC, the China Initiative of the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, Brown University's Department of Sociology, and the School of Social Development and Public Policy at Fudan University, Shanghai.
