PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] – Former PSTC Trainee Doo-Sub Kim (Sociology, '84) has been named president of the Asian Population Association (APA). Kim is a professor of Sociology at Hanyang University in Korea, where he has taught since 1984.  He aims to increase the membership and the financial sustainability of the APA during his three-year term as well as make the fourth annual meeting of the organization "a significant event in the history of our association in terms of the number of participants and quality of the papers to be presented," he said.

Established in 2007, the APA has grown to a membership over 1,200 from 59 countries, with many former PSTC trainees playing key roles and strongly supporting the development of the organization. 

"The PSTC network in the Asian region is very strong in terms of the number of alumni and intensity of solidarity," Kim said. "My sincere appreciation goes to all the PSTC alumni for embracing our common purpose and common efforts with passion, commitment, and dedication."

While at the PSTC, Kim studied under Professor Calvin Goldscheider, professor emeritus of Sociology and Judiac Studies, with Professor Sidney Goldstein, founder of the PSTC and professor emeritus of Sociology, also serving on his dissertation committee. Kim has maintained connections with both of them.

Kim previously served as president of the Population Association of Korea and president of the Korea Social Science Data Archive. His most recent book is titled International Marriage of Koreans and Adaptation of Foreign Spouses (2015).
